THE GRAY TAPES (EP) - .FLPS

It’s easy to get lost in the monotony of being stuck inside but at times like these, sometimes a change of tempo is just what one might need to find a new rhythm and what FLPS has done is come through with the musical refresh that we needed. 🎧 From the rumble of the circuitry and the waveforms being pounded into new shapes, the EP is lo-fi, certainly, but more than that it’s a journey through sound in its many forms, from the introspective opening song’s production on “BE YOU” being a mellow, yet pacey instrumental with crisp drums and tender piano keys to the disorienting acid trip that the multi-part “THE COME UP” presents. 🔊✨ I can’t even say if “So Analog” & “Anaitwa?” are truly my favorites but they are the ones i kept replaying over and over. 🔂 🔂 There’s really not a bad song in the bunch and they manage to keep things exciting and avoided sounding too repetitive with interesting beat switch-ups and airy vocal interludes that complement the tape so well. 🌟 What’s pretty clear from the offset though, is that this project’s aim was to push the envelope and experiment with as many different sounds as possible and somehow they managed to cohesively put together something really special with the precision of scientists. 👨🏾‍🔬👨🏾‍🔬 It doesn’t matter if every detail is in its right place, “THE GRAY TAPE” is about harnessing the noise and directing it even if you can never hope to tame it and doing so in a way that leaves you ready to go back for more. 💫 It took me a minute to finally listen to this, but this is a very special offering for sure and I vibe with this content heavily. 💯 In fact, I personally would love to hear it on one of youtube’s many lo-fi channels at some point, this is killer stuff. 🔥🔥🔥
