NOT ALL THAT (EP) - M. RUMBI

In my eyes, what has always made M. Rumbi such a special artist has been his ability to tell it like is without any fluff in between. 🎧 So few lyricists are able to reach a conclusion and tell a story in such a direct manner, but with his hard-nosed charisma, acrobatic flows, and tireless deliveries, he has become the master of this, showcasing his skills with every new release. ☄️🏌🏾‍♂️And with his new EP, “NOT ALL THAT”, he simply lets this abundant talent speak for itself off a project that comes primarily based on dreamy and majestic production. 🎹 At 5 tracks long, this offering masters the art of maximizing the power of words and sounds, using remarkably few songs like the intro “Love” that aims to provide such a comprehensive emotional and mental recap of the life and experiences that have led M. Rumbi up to this point so far. 💔 His style is refreshing in its undiluted devotion to pushing the boundaries of creativity, and it is because of this that he actually manages to provide a perfected look into the intersection between music and life, all while creating an ambience that is almost trance like while the vocals remain borderline hypnotic in the best way. 🌀 The EP title track, “Not All That” & final track “Pekee” are perfect examples of this, most especially. 🏆🏆 In short, Not All That is a reflective, and inherently true-to-self project that is really beautiful in terms of sonic direction and whose verses are filled with quotable melancholic and even downbeat lyrical themes that embody the very cover art it aims to express. 🎙 But, the irony of it all, is that while the project aims to explain why he thinks that he is not all that, the quality of music he’s made to express himself proves otherwise and it is this faint blurred line that he is standing on that makes N.A.T. to be a rather thought-provoking listen. 🎶🎶🎶
