MISCREANTS FM (EP) - D'IYI x RAÉ

The only thing that can be better than receiving some new music from D’iyi, is when we get some new material that’s also paired together with Raé because when they come together, it’s something of a dream team. 🤝 With Miscreants FM, they’ve created something memorable & when they sent over the album in advance, I loved every single second of it. 🧸 The EP itself is full of lighthearted, wistful melodic afro synths combined with absolutely explosive & crisp 808s that make the whole speaker shake from track to track with “Omo Le Fo”, “Remedy” & “Neverland” being especially prime examples of this. 🔊🔥 It’s a project that’s commendably well put together with a perfect selection of beats that overall are characteristically menacing & bass-heavy, which in turn provides the perfect background for them to navigate with their unique flows & vocals. 🗣✨ And whether you prefer beautiful & smooth singing or cutthroat + rapid & punchline bars being dished out, it’s all provided here. 💯 But what’s even more important, is the album’s raw, uncensored & uninhibited purview into what it’s like to be a misunderstood youth nowadays in search of meaning & purpose with such relatable lines like “I don’t need your nod or your validation” or “drinking for optimism, fucking for confidence” or “fake flexing i’ve been living for the gram”. 🗝 I’m honestly intrigued to see where they even begin their writing process when it comes to making music like this, because taking such topics & translating them into such deep, profound concepts can take quite a lot of time & effort to put together. ✍🏾 What the Miscreant EP is in short, is an introspective project that shows how rap is still a pure form of expression dominated by the youth as they work through their problems on the mic & relate to all the other peers in their community. 🌸⁣
