CHAMO MILE: PYE (EP) - BAKHITA

Although this is far from Bakhita’s first release, her new album “Chamo Mile: PYE” sounds & feels like the culmination of hard work with a heavy emphasis on refinement. 💎 I’m not even sure if you can categorize her music because her dexterity & artistry runs so much deeper than just one genre. 🎧 There are indie qualities within her voice & instrumentals that pair with Hip-Hop elements while I’m also reminded of certain R&B or even Neosoul offerings on other tracks, that it’s simply impossible to box her into one specific category. 💯 This is plainly obvious as we are met immediately by a piano-filled ballad coupled with a fairly simplistic yet vibey drumline on the opening track “Upstairs”. 🎹 The hook on this record is somewhat sorrowful yet optimistic as she takes us on a rollercoaster ride with her varying melodies before subduing her charisma ever so slightly for the verses. 🗣 The next track is “Tangawizi”, where a few guitar strums paired with some soft drums create a fairly minimal foundation for her to stand out & boast her wide range in skillset. 💫 Her voice throughout the song just sounds so pure, innocent & wholesome but there’s also passion & emotion behind every note she sings. I throughly enjoyed the next track “Dem Go Know” as it carries with it funk-fueled 90s vibes creating a steamy experience for listeners as the singer-songwriter blissfully entrances you through soul-laced vocals. 🎙 The tone & tempo of the album are then slightly lowered in the proceeding songs, with her sequencing decisions on this album feeling incredibly calculated, as we peak & dive through a balanced variation of upbeat records and more down-tempo performances. 🌪 In totality, each song delves into the nature of the human spirit, telling the story of her journey while ultimately concluding an unshakeable self-confidence in self. The album is especially texturized by compelling production & awe-inspiring vocals both from a singing & rapping perspective, making it hard not to fall in love with it and raising it’s revisit value immensely high. 🌟
