A DECADE AGO (EP) - DARYA KISH

I’m a vocal supporter of good production being a core element to any great song or project, but while sound might peak the attention of a listener & give a project the foundation to connect, excellent songwriting is what keeps people coming back as it packages emotion in such a way that lasts longer. ✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾 However, in the rare instance you manage to perfectly merge great production with this very thought, you’ve got something special as Darya has ever so proven with ‘A Decade Ago’. ⏳ On this EP, the singing & production work hand-in-hand as opposed to presenting one on top of the other & the yield of such, is a cohesive wave of sound that sets the mood in an infectious way. 🌸 As the album traverses the decadent intersection of R&B, Darya’s heaven-sent vocals are incredibly soothing, meshing perfectly over a mix of soft R&B, electronic, piano & hip-hop elements reaching a level of rawness that feels genuine & unrestrained, allowing her to paint illustrious pictures and be more expressive with everything she is capable of expressing from a lyrical and stylistic standpoint. 🗣✨ She gives the sense of someone with an old soul and that permeates through every single melody that it’s incredible how much she has to say & offer. 🗝 Something that was so notable was the outro on the last song that speaks on how, “people don’t make albums anymore”, which is so fittingly ironic as she ends up fully grasping the impact of that statement by grafting a body of work whose subject matter while primordily melancholy, is ever so blissful, culminating into her most polished offering yet. 🌹 There’s always a sense of emotional weight that arrives with any song or project built to last & consequently, ‘A Decade Ago’ has all of these qualities & more, crafting a truly magnificent listening experience that needs to be taken in with your full attention. 🎧
